2020 - An Unexpected Year

Who would have thought that in a matter of weeks, we would look at hugs and human interaction in a new light? The year 2020 has undoubtably brought unexpected obstacles to society and challenged us to adapt to new circumstances. However, it is important to shed some light on the positive aspects that may not have received as much attention during this difficult year.

First, we would like to acknowledge the comeback that swept the nation: Drive-In theaters. They have made a huge return this year. Dating back to the early 1900’s when silent films were prevalent, Drive-In theaters became an American staple for decades. However, in recent years we have witnessed attendance plummet due to the development of streaming services and DVD’s that allow you to enjoy Hollywood blockbusters from the comfort of your home. As more and more people sought activities to keep themselves occupied while practicing social distancing, we witnessed the resurgence of the classic American Drive-In theater. This has been truly fun to see!

Nature, nature, nature! This year we have had the opportunity to detach and appreciate nature. Park attendances have seen a record high since March. For a while parks were some of the only places that remained open to the public, allowing people to detach and enjoy their surroundings. We have been able to enjoy time with friends and family through bike and hiking trails, bird watching and other fun outdoor activities. Picnic anyone?

Community: During 2020, society has come together! Though times were difficult, we worked together and rallied around support frontline workers and others who needed help.  In addition to this, educators were shown so much appreciation after many families discovered the difficulty of homeschooling.

Cheers to getting through this year together! This is something to be proud of. Now, bring on 2021!
